WSDB was started by Jimmy Osterhout and Brad Rackow in 2001. They created a program that meets every Friday night at the Western Springs Recreation Center. At first the program was small, containing about six players who regularly played on Friday nights. Those 6 players invited everyone they knew to come and play with them. The program eventually grew from 6 to over 100 players. WSDB currently holds an open gym every Friday night from 7:00 - 8:30 for 5th grade to 8th grade players and an 8: 30 - 10: 30 open gym for ages 14 and up. The 5th grade to 8th grade league has an average of about 40 regular players and the adult league has about 30 regular players. We hold an annual Thanksgiving Break Dodgeball Tournament at the Western Springs Rec Center. This year we had 13 teams play for a first prize of $250. Our goals for the upcoming year are to have one more adult tournament and one junior high tournament. We also want to expand our specific style of dodgeball to one or more gyms in the Chicagoland area. Our mission is to expand, formalize, and improve the game of dodgeball. We plan to achieve this by providing leadership and resources to those who are serious about learning the sport and show potential in becoming a developed dodgeball player. |
